[thermometer raised=7500 target=55000 height=200 align=left]Philadelphia Union midfielder and soccer star Michael Lahoud was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone. He escaped the devastating civil war when he was six years old, moving to the United States to be with his mother, and he still has strong ties to his home country.

Since 2011, Michael has been committed to building a school in Sierra Leone. He’s held two charity bowling tournaments in the Southern California area so far, raising over $5,000. In 2013, he’s looking to do several more charity events in hopes to reach his goal of $50,000.

Find out more about Mike and his commitment to building a school by watching this video from the Philadelphia Union.
