Scarcies Secondary School

Scarcies Secondary School was founded in 1968 in the village of Mambolo, northeast of Freetown, where Schools for Salone's President, Bob Heavner was a Peach Corps Volunteer Teacher from 1969 to 1971.  The school achieved academic success through it's dedication to educational excellence.  During the war, the school was forced to relocate its staff to Freetown, but in spite of the distance, the school was able to operate six days per week for 11 months out of each year.

Before Repairs

Sierra Leone Relief Agency of California, now partnering with Schools For Salone, has been providing support for this school including funding a van for transportation, computers, textbooks, soccer uniforms and more.  In 2008 new latrines were constructed for the school but a new water well is needed.

Current needs are focused on raising $50,000-$60,000 to equip and make operational an existing health clinic in Mambolo. This would serve thousands of residents from neighboring villages as well.  Medical equipment, medicines and supplies are needed.  The building structure was not destroyed during the war and a licensed nurse is on site.  There is no available health care anywhere near this inaccessible and rural part of the country.

Donations are needed for this Schools for Salone project!
