Kambawama Construction

Kambawama, a rural junior secondary school funded by the students of the University of Washington Social Justice Through Philanthropy class, is well underway. The community requested this school because the nearest junior secondary school was a 6-8 mile walk each direction, which severely limited the ability of children to continue their education past primary school.
The construction of the school in Kambawama has been progressing quickly. The school structure is complete and Programme for Children is now constructing the water well and the toilets with private stalls. Once those are complete, all that will remain are the finishing touches. The school will be ready for the approximately 230 students to begin using when school starts in September.

More GiveBIG Classrooms

Programme for Children has started construction on the second set of classrooms funded by generous GiveBIG donors. These classrooms are being built in Masanga, which is one of the earliest schools we built. Demand for education has increased steadily in this community, and the number of children wanting to attend the school has surpassed the capacity of the original structure. A new building containing two additional classrooms will be ready in time for the new school year.
