School Construction

Our partners in Sierra Leone are working hard to finish up school construction projects before the heavy rains interfere with construction activities. We are so grateful for all they are doing. This year we have had a record 6 schools under construction at once! Thanks to all who have donated to make these schools possible.

At Kadanso and Koromasilaia in the far North, our partners are putting on the finishing touches to the school. Window grates, finishing the flooring, and purchasing furniture for the school are some of the final pieces to finishing these schools. They are so close to completion!

In the South, the school at Largor and the classroom building and water well at Muloma Women’s Technical Vocational Center (MWTVC) are still under construction. At Largor, the walls are up and the roof is on! Work at this school is progressing quickly. At MWTVC, the water well and latrines are complete, and the classroom structure is almost complete as well.

Facemasks and Menstruation Kits

Uman Tok has been tirelessly meeting the dual needs of facemasks and reusable menstruation kits during the COVID-19 pandemic. The team is currently working on another 4,000 facemasks to deliver to clinics, frontline workers, and schools as the pandemic continues. The feedback from recipients of these facemasks is overwhelming. The US Embassy, frontline workers, and other NGOs are all so grateful and impressed with the quality and wear-ability of the facemasks from Uman Tok. Thank you Uman Tok team and everyone who has donated toward our partners’ pandemic response efforts.

Periods don’t stop for pandemics. While fulfilling orders for thousands of facemasks, the Uman Tok team has not forgotten their core objective- to give girls the supplies they need so their periods do not interfere with their education. Uman Tok has been preparing nearly 700 menstruation kits to go out to girls in all of our schools, so they have what they need to manage their periods safely and confidently. Our partners will be distributing these kits along with reproductive health education for boys and girls.
