In early December, our amazing partners at Uman Tok visited our schools in the remote northern part of the country to do reproductive health education with the students. 873 students learned about reproductive health and hygiene, and 310 girls received menstruation kits.
The classes were very interactive, especially in schools Uman Tok has visited before, as most of the pupils were aware of our purpose. The Uman Tok team established a ground rule of no shame which also helped the students feel comfortable and engaged.
The children were so grateful for the kits and the education and asked that Uman Tok continue to visit them. The section chief in one of the schools sends thanks to all who help make this program possible. He said there are great differences in their children in terms of behavior and increased dedication to their education because of the education they are receiving in school through Uman Tok.

SALBOT found that each library is being used well by the students, teachers, and community. Because of these libraries and trainings, the schools around the libraries can now boast of more students developing the habit of reading and being able to do research. Schools have also experienced an increase in school enrollment and more visitors to see what the libraries offer and the facilities and materials that they have.

Construction is progressing quickly on the new primary school in Ngolehun. The excavation is complete and the Programme for Children construction team is working on building the walls. Ngolehun is in southern Sierra Leone and is the family home of one of our board members, James Mannah. Currently, this community does not have a sound structure conducive to a strong learning experience. This new school will serve over 200 students. who are eager for a school building to support their learning.
Programme for Children has also broken ground on the new classrooms for Robis, a very high performing school in the northern part of the country that has far outgrown the capacity of its existing building. The community is so excited for this building because it will allow the school to meet the need for all students who want to attend school.
