The new primary school in Ngolehun is nearing completion! The roof is on and the walls have been plastered. Soon the school will be painted and ready for furniture.
Ngolehun is the community in southern Sierra Leone where one of our board members, James Mannah, is from. The Ngolehun community came to our attention because our partners in Sierra Leone had noticed the community’s high commitment to education and the lack of adequate education infrastructure. The new school will make education possible for the students in Ngolehun and the surrounding communities. Thank you to James Mannah, Pam Bohmann, and their community for making this new school possible!

Our partners in the far north are making rapid progress on the school in Madina. The walls are up and they are working on the header beams above the windows and doors.
Madina is a rural community in the far northern part of Sierra Leone. It is very difficult to get to during rainy season, and the education support in that area is minimal. This community had a crumbling mud-block school that was not safe for use.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Ken Lans, Madina will have a new, safe school that will revitalize educational opportunity for the children of Madina for generations to come.

Schools for Salone partnered with Programme for Children and the Robis community to build a school in 2013. The village was and continues to be highly motivated. The headmaster is dedicated and a strong advocate for his school. Enrollment for this school has increased steadily and the existing school building is not able to comfortably accommodate all of the children who want to go to school. Because of the high performance of the school, dedication of the teachers, and commitment of the community, our partners are constructing a new 2-room structure and additional toilets to accommodate the increased enrollment at the school.
Now, the new classroom building is almost complete! The roof and doors have been installed and the building is almost ready to be painted.

Throughout the month of February the TLF team completed two training sessions. A Reading Club Teacher Training, working with the teachers on critical thinking questions, summarizing, making inferences, and predictions! This will surely take TLF reading club students to the next level, creating avid readers who are engaged in their own learning!
Last week, our Facilitators met with Program Manager Saio Marah for a Training of Trainers. Having ended 2020 with phonics data collected from TLF primary teachers our team worked for three days planning a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) survey to gather phonics data from Class 1, 2, and 3 students at the 9 primary schools who participate in our up country teacher training. After the MEL visits, the TLF team will implement a new phonics and classroom management training to help students and teachers excel in the classroom. March will be madness with all TLF’s training plans!

This month, Programme for Children visited school communities to deliver school supplies. These schools do not have another source for teaching and learning materials, so these school supply deliveries are essential for quality teaching and learning. PFC delivers chalk, pens, pencils, and notebooks for the students to practice their lessons.
Delivering school supplies is one part of our commitment to an ongoing relationship with each community in which we build a school.
