The school in Ngolehun is complete and ready for classes! This school will be a life-changing resource for children in this community, and is the fulfillment of a longtime dream of the community to have a permanent, long-lasting school building for their children.
Ngolehun is the community in southern Sierra Leone where one of our board members, James Mannah, is from. The Ngolehun community came to our attention because our partners in Sierra Leone had noticed the community’s high commitment to education and the lack of adequate education infrastructure. The new school will make education possible for the students in Ngolehun and the surrounding communities. Construction on the primary school is moving quickly. The roofing is complete, and this week our partners completed the classroom ceilings. Very soon our partners will be putting on the finishing touches including paint, railings, window grates, and furniture.
Madina is a rural community in the far northern part of Sierra Leone. It is very difficult to get to during rainy season, and the education support in that area is minimal. This community had a crumbling mud-block school that was not safe for use. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Ken Lans, Madina will have a new, safe school that will revitalize educational opportunity for the children of Madina for generations to come.

The Masosingbi community celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony of their new school this month. Construction has begun on a new primary school in this community, thanks to the generosity of Perry Roshan-Zamir and the Mona Foundation.
This primary school in Masosingbi will serve a very remote community left behind by other educational development efforts in Sierra Leone. Currently, the nearest school is 6 miles away and has no clean water or toilets. Students have to walk to and from school, and on top of hunger the distance is too great and many drop out. Additionally, students miss at least several weeks of every school year because the journey is made impassable by heavy rains, flooding, and broken bridges. There are currently 250 students, 120 girls and 130 boys, who will benefit from this new school, which will include a water well, toilets, and a handwashing station. Building this school in Masosingbi will not only make education more accessible for these students, but will also improve their health and wellbeing.

This month, our partners at Sierra Leone Book Trust visited two of our libraries, Mamboma and Jaiama Bongor, for a follow up visit, refresher training for teacher librarians, and to deliver new library books. In both libraries, the whole event generated high levels of engagement with the books and the lessons as students, parents, teachers, and community members were all grateful and enthusiastic about the type of books that were presented to them. In both of these libraries, books are accessible for students and student were able to take part in the book distribution event.
