Mona Foundation Funds New Njomborhun School

Construction has begun for our 26th school, a junior secondary school in Njomborhun, a village in Jaiama Chiefdom in the southern part of Sierra Leone.
This school is funded by the Mona Foundation, a foundation based in the Seattle area. Mona Foundation has granted Schools for Salone and Programme for Children the full funding to build this school. Thank you, Mona Foundation!
Currently children who graduate from the five primary schools in the area surrounding Njomborhun have to walk six to eight miles each way to reach the nearest junior secondary school or find a place to stay near the school. This distance prohibits many from continuing their education past primary school. The long walk and distance from home leaves girls vulnerable and has contributed to a high rate of teenage pregnancy. Ten girls from Njomborhun became pregnant last year alone. The community is anxious to have this school in their community so that students, especially girls, can live at home in a safer environment.
Building this school is providing the first essential piece toward making it possible for this village to educate their children and strengthen the future of their community and region. There are already 150 students ready and waiting for when the school in Njomborhun is complete!

Water for Education for All

Education for All is a primary school in the hills outside of Freetown. During the dry season, this school often has to go without any source of water. This month Programme for Children installed two 3,000-liter water holding tanks so the students and teachers at EfA can count on a ready supply of safe, clean water to drink.
Access to clean water helps ensure students can stay safe and healthy, enabling them to stay in school and pursue their dreams. Many, many thanks to Mike Lahoud, midfielder for San Antonio FC for funding this project and bringing clean water to hundreds of students!
