The 14-Mile Barrier is Broken: Quality Education Arrives in a Last-Mile Community

Koromasilaia is a remote community to the northwest of Falaba District. The population is estimated at 1,500. Most families here are subsistence farmers who earn less than $2 a day. For years, children in Koromasilaia village had three choices if they wanted to attend senior secondary school: walk 14 miles each day, move away, or pay for transport to and from Kabala.

Mothers and Daughters use rags in Sierra Leone – An Urgent Call for Action on Pads and Menstrual Hygiene  

To mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Schools for Salone (SfS) partnered with Uman Tok hosted an insightful webinar that tackled one of Sierra Leone’s most pressing issues: menstrual health and hygiene. 

Bringing together voices from Sierra Leone and the U.S., the webinar explored the widespread silence, stigma, and systemic challenges surrounding menstruation which affect girls and women across the country everyday.
